Yes, I finally changed!
So, I’ve been busy in my first life. Busier than I’ve ever been. A couple of things have suffered for that. This blog and my Second Life fashion fun. When I’ve been able to open the Second Life window that’s usually lurking down there on my task bar, I’ve been busy building, designing, or catching up on IMs. But I did take a few minutes to change my virtual clothes this morning. And I’m, once again, amazed by the creativity, versatility and skill of content creators in Second Life. I pulled together an outfit of old and new favorites by folks I admire greatly. The clothes bear comments, but so do the designers. Let’s go!
From top to bottom. The hair is Sylvia by Truth. This is, by far and away, the best hair I’ve seen in Second Life. I love it so much that three weeks ago I took several pictures of my avatar wearing it, printed them out and took them to my hairdresser who recreated the look for me in first life! I’m wearing the walnut shade from the Light Browns pack. Included with the pack purchase are streaked version of light brown shades (not shown) – or bacon hair, as it was dubbed by the ever-witty Kitty O’Toole.
The real joy of Truth hair, and why Truth Hawks is a legend, is really quite simple – he consistently brings out new product in a wide variety of styles. There are demos available in world and on XStreet. The stuff is quality and it is reasonably priced. <3

Next up is the top, which can be summed up in one word… YUM. It’s Surf Couture – Canvas Garden Top in Palm (L$140). I’m not a flowery kind of girl. Never have been, never will be – but the prim floral shoulder drape is fun and flirty without a trace of a skank. It’s feminine without being girly. It’s sophisticated, and still works well with jeans. I’m a sucker for well-done one-shoulder deals in first life, and now in Second Life. And I’m a sucker for green. I am in love with the fluidness of the fabric folds. Emma Gilmour scores big with this!
The Sand Shack Surf Co. is home to Ms. Gilmour’s Surf Couture line. The store is worth a visit; it’s well built, spacious, and unique – and totally lacking that “OMG – I am sooo STRIVING to be different” feel. There’s also a wide variety of merchandise. Most of it is casual, summery and beachy – as the name of the store suggests. However, it’s not your average beach bunny apparel. You can grab everything from jeans to hair, and you’ll always get your Lindens’ worth.
Pictured below are the Shoelace Sandals in White (L$175). They’re also made of nothing but win. Nice flat sandals which work well with everything from swimwear to peasant skirts to jeans. Made for size zero feet, they don’t require a shoe base. oxxxo
Besides being incredibly gifted, the designer herself is a joy. I don’t know Emma Gilmour well, but got a chance to meet her during the I <3 Originals Fair in February. She was a class act, gracious, prompt, and filled with enthusiasm and she brought her own unique brand of fun to the fair.

Now, in Second life I’m a jewelry addict. There’s no getting around it. It’s why I started making jewelry. And generally, I wear a lot of my own jewelry. But accessorizing Emma Gilmour’s top called for jewelry totally out of my league.
Who ya gonna call?
The cuff and ring I’m sporting are from the alaMood Boutique Mora Gabby Ensemble (L$400) by Jori Watler. They come together with a gorgeous necklace (not shown). Each piece comes with multiple attachment points and really bridge the gap between haute couture and casual elegance. The prim work is unparalleled and the texturing is decadent. You can actually feel the weight of the pieces, and they give you that happy, shivery feeling that is usually reserved for quality first life jewelry.
The jewelry comes with revolutionary new resizer scripts – one script per piece. You’re not going to lag out the sim if you leave the scripts in tact!
Jori is one of my favorite people in Second Life. She’s honest, hard-working, and extremely talented. She’s has an eye for graceful lines and practical realism in the virtual world. This is witnessed in her jewelry collections as well as in her main store, located at Copley Square.
The alaMood Boutique store is well thought-out, the height of upscale shopping experiences. Think Saks & Co. without the obnoxious perfume spritzers. Even better, there is always new merchandise to ogle over!
Last but not least, the jeans. ETD Distressed Jeans – Faded (L$150). I bought these jeans almost two years ago and they’ve gotten a lot of wear, and will for virtual years to come. Unfortunately, Elikapeka Tiramisu closed down her ETD store. She was noted hair designer who dabbled in clothing and shoes. I was never a big fan of her hair, but I will remember her fondly for these jeans. They came with skinny leg and slouchy leg options, and make you feel comfy just by looking at them.
You can take away the store, but you cannot take away the love!
