Wind River Territory
Wind River Territory is an island in the virtual world of Second Life™, owned by Kat Alderson and Noble Charron (New York Times Bestselling author Michael A. Stackpole). Lovingly called Wind River, it is home to the Cad & Tart™ flagship store and the Alderson & Charron™ flagship store.
Additionally, Wind River is home to several other unique stores and groups, including Third Life Books, Michael A. Stackpole’s Office Hours, and the Fantasy & Science Fiction Writers’ Workshop.
Wind River is a labor of love. In designing and building the sim, Kat called upon her love of mountains, high plains, history, and her enduring fascination with the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The layout of Wind River is modeled on the layouts of dozens of American frontier towns of the 1880′s. The saloon (an event hall for Wind River’s residents) and livery (Dr. Charon’s Museum of Wonders and Oddities) are at opposite end of Main Street from the Wind River Church and the Wind River School. There’s a lot of clapboard and siding, as well as some log structures, and a stone church. All of the builds on Wind River Territory were done by Kat, and as of this writing, they are not for sale.
Wind River Territory is named after what the Native Americans called, “The Warm Valley of the Wind River.” The valley, sheltered by the Grand Tetons and Rocky Mountains the fertile land afforded the People a comfortable winter camp, with plenty of game and pristine water. A stroll around Wind River Territory will introduce you to some of the wildlife those Natives would have seen around their camp.
